Smoke

BLE Smoke & Fire Curtains have always been at the forefront of engineered smoke strategies. Originally the primary use of smoke curtains was for smoke containment and smoke channelling, particularly in complex buildings such as airports and shopping centres.

Smoke sealing and smoke permeability are now important considerations and in both cases BLE Smoke & Fire Curtains have a suitable curtain solution.

The SC60 Smoke Curtain has been utilised by architects and fire engineers in buildings all over the world. It is a highly regarded for its lightweight robustness and quality engineering.
Static Draft Curtain incorporating X32K fabric.

Fire

Despite BLE Smoke & Fire Curtains continual raising of the performance bar with their 240 minute integrity fire curtain, it is recognised that not all buildings require this level of protection. Therefore BLE introduced the FC60; a 60-minute integrity solution built with all the same build quality and options as the FC240. In line with BLE Smoke & Fire Curtains considerable investment in global testing, the FC series was put through it’s paces with various testing facilities.

The result was a fully certified 60-minute integrity curtain retaining all the advantages of the BLE system; excellent build quality, simple design, backward compatibility and many control and interface options.

All BLE Smoke & Fire curtains are made to measure with components being assembled in our facility to check their quality before disassembling for shipment. This ensures there are no surprises with the equipment on site. Classified to E60 and a Class O surface spread of flame for ASB 1 & 3 use, this curtain gives certified protection.
BLE Smoke & Fire Curtains recognised early on that integrity requirements would increase in line with modern building products. This led to the early design of the 240-minute fire integrity curtain.

Classified to E240 W20 and a Class O surface spread of flame for ASB 1 & 3 use this curtain gives certified protection, in addition it provides a 1 & 2 hour insulating zone.
BLE Smoke & Fire Curtains have always been at the forefront of performance curtains & with the FC3/EW-BI it has introduced a market leading curtain performance. "W ratings" for the irradiance of heat have become the industry standard and with 90 minutes this puts BLE in a prime position.

Compliance with BS8524-1 gives this product additional scope in the UK marketplace and comfort for designers.
While offering this solution, BLE have maintained all the things that our customers have come to rely upon; solid construction, easy installation and architectural design.
BLE Smoke and Fire Curtains have recognised that the need and demand for radiant heat protection for fire curtains is increasing. Therefore as part of ongoing development, we have designed and developed the FC4-V4A as part of our range of fire curtains.

The curtain not only provides 120 minutes integrity (E) but also provides 120 minute irradiance of heat protection (W) <15 kw//m2. The curtains offers many benefits and features for specifiers.

Specialist

BLE Smoke and Fire Curtains have designed and developed a Horizontal Fire Curtain as part of its wide range of curtain solutions.

The importance of fire safety and the use of vertical curtains within buildings have increased with evolving worldwide standards over the past few years. While these are meeting the requirements of the building, it may be limiting and compromising on a how a building can be designed to meet the fire regulations without having large cost implications.

This in turn led BLE to introduce a Horizontal Fire Curtain system which offers many benefits and features.
BLE Smoke & Fire Curtains recognised that the use and desired requirements of fire curtains in the construction industry has increased. While the standard range of fire curtains meet the performance requirements, these may take up space as well as affecting the overall aesthetics.

This in turn led BLE to develop and design an alternative "Accordion" system solution that may better suit certain specialist situations.

Controls

The GCP provides power to the master control card units (MCC) when the fire alarm status is normal (closed). If the fire alarm is activated the MCC units are powered down allowing the curtains to deploy to their fire operational position under gravity.

When the alarm is reinstated the MCC's are powered up, thus retracting the curtains. If there is a mains failure, the back-up batteries provide power to the MCC's for up to 3 hours, (subject to load), and prevent deployment until discharged unless overridden by an alarm signal to activate.
The GCP UL complies with USA derived UL standards. The GCP provides power to the MCC units when the fire alarm status is normal (closed). If the fire alarm is activated, the MCC units are powered down allowing the curtains to deploy to their fire operational position under gravity.

When the alarm is reinstated the MCC's are powered up retracting the curtains. If there is a mains failure the back-up batteries provide power to the MCC's for up to 3 hours, (subject to load), and prevent deployment until discharged unless overridden by an alarm signal to activate. Delayed drop and delayed reset functions are fitted as standard.
For large curtains with a longer ascent time, the link RL1 can be removed to increase the time that the MCC drives the motor. With the link in place, the timer drives for 45 seconds, with the link out this increases to 90 seconds. The green LED on the PCB illuminates to show when the motor is driving at full power. When the curtain has fully retracted the MCC ‘stalls’ the motor and the ‘fold back’ voltage of 3.5v holds the curtain up.
Various options are available for warning of curtain deployment.
Other units are available with the facility to record your own voice warning in any language.
These motors are permanent magnet DC motors. This configuration gives them a modest size combined with considerable torque. The motors design provides a long maintenance free service life.
From time to time, the power within the building may become compromised. Battery backup overcomes that situation and ensures the smoke and fire curtains continue to operate in accordance with the design intent.

Of course this is also the case if the power is compromised in the event of the fire itself. Through properly maintained service schedules, clients can rest assured.
